Hey, it’s currently July 1989 and N-Joy is here, from Akihabara in the Tokyo prefecture, where we just finished recording our new natsu hit “Strawberry Sundae” with friends Masahiro (yeah, he really knows how to shred that Strat), Mitsuru (nobody slaps that P-Bass hard quite like him) and Hiroyuki (his custom Tama kit punches and swings like no other) and can’t wait to play it to the slender & sophisticated ladies waiting in the Gajoen Hotel lounge with their Midori Sours already in hand. They greet us with a timid, shy smile and then… was that a kiss? Suddenly awake, I find myself locked in my room. Outside it’s a gloomy day, I can see mask-wearing people walking hastily down the street without acknowledging each other’s existence. The TV is still on and banters endlessly about the pandemics… I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus, my left shoulder still in pain from the second dose of Pfizer, I’m sweating and my head is floating… I fall back to sleep and hey! I’m again in 80s Japan, I need to finish that stuff with the girls in the hotel and then pay a quick visit to my friend Hirotaka’s studio, he wants to show me his brand new Yamaha SY77, and something’s already telling me it won’t be that quick, with me and good old Hiro trying out presets, probably we’ll end sketching some ideas for our next album, this one’s gonna be really good and full of joy and hope for the future and surely I’ll be sneaking in The Lick in every track … Damn, I’m awake again, somebody’s asking me how I feel and if I need paracetamol, then I remember I’m a few months late for my Scenesat 6 scroll text but that’s not too bad, John is late too, I need to think of something to write but my head is exploding… my usual tongue-in-cheek warning that “no actual instruments have been harmed during the production of this track” is going to be in it 100%, but I have no clue about what else to write this time, I swear, and suddenly I come with the idea that, given the kind of song, some nostalgic time travel theme would be real nice and so here it comes...
