Subdividing by 5 is weird. It has this jumpy, stuttery feeling that can't quite be nailed down, but still has flow if you don't count too hard.
The challenge with this song (apart from the fact that I've never done anything remotely like it) was how to track it in FL Studio which doesn't yet have time signatures. I ended up chopping up a triplet pattern (think 12/12 rather than 4/4), count out five of those, and go where the rhythm wanted to go. Africa, in this case.
The solo is another of those Cory Henry "tributes" (read: "ripoff") where the harmonies follow the solo lead. I really enjoy making those. It was also an interesting challenge to keep escalating the arrangement while keeping the halfbeat feel. Speaking of drums, I ended up making heavy use of the tom rimshot samples in Superior Drummer (bet you didn't know about those!) and just whacked away at something that sounded vaguely war drums-y.
Bonus points to the synth lead for the jazz trumpet impression at the very end.
